MAHJAR in present form, is written by Ahmed Ahmed & Fadwa El Guindi. It is based on the true story written by Ahmed Ahmed about his own family, adapted and rewritten to include the stories told, written, and observed of many immigrant Arabs - their lives and concerns, conflicts and doubts, fears and joys.

MAHJAR is not about any one family, any one Arab country, any one Arabic dialect, or any one experience. Arab-Americans everywhere will find their story embedded in MAHJAR.
